Naira Marley: 5 Moral Lessons From The Story

Naira Marley has been trending as a result of his encounter with EFCC which was initiated during his online outburst with the singer Simi.

The issue started like a normal Instagram rant when the JAMB question crooner SIMI gave her own opinion on the negative impacts of internet fraudster popularly known as “Yahoo Yahoo” on Nigerians home and abroad. She also said that the so called “scammers” should stop listening/buying songs.

Naira Marley who did not find her opinion a genuine one indirectly reacted with a post on his Instagram account where he stated that,

“…..If u know about slavery u go know say yahoo no be crime”

The UK based singer did not stop with his reaction as he also reported that SIMI snubbed her at the homecoming event held in Lagos state. Simi however denied the allegation on live radio. According to her,

“To be honest with you, I have zero issues with Naira Marley, I don’t have anything against him, he is not my enemy. We are not friends, we are not enemies. I saw him coming, we did not make eyes contacts, he did not talk to me, I did not talk to him. It is funny because he didn’t do anything to me, he did not directly disrespect me, he is not the first person that would say what he is saying.
I’m not a stupid person, I’m not going to antagonize you because I’m not dumb. I like to mind my business. Probably he saw something and said something else. But he never spoke to me, he didn’t approach me and I saw that and I said whatever makes you happy. And for me I’m a big picture person, I look at the big picture and if you are not in the picture, I’m not going to stress myself.”

In another post on Instagram story, Naira Marley took to his page to address the issue of “Yahoo Yahoo”. He claimed the internet fraudsters are the reason why money is still in circulation.

The controversy later inspired Naira Marley to drop a new song which feature Zlatan Ibile with the title “Am I A Yahoo Boy”

On Friday, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) arrested Naira Marley, Zlatan and his friends for internet related crimes. The investigation revealed that incriminatory information was discovered on Naira Marley’s item.

The allegations was later debunked by his management team. According to his team, the item recovered from the artist does not belong to him.

He was charged to court with 11 counts while Zlatan was released on administrative bail.

On the 20th of May 2019 He was charged to court and pleaded guilty. The judge in charge of the case adjourned the hearing till 30th May while the accused remain in EFCC custody.
