TEXT/VIDEO: What Happened at The First Edition of Limelite Lift Conference 2019

The Limelite Lift Conference is a training program aimed at enlightening young creatives and business men and women from the grassroots.

According to the convener of the event, Oladimeji Gabriel, the purpose of the program is to educate and empower individuals in different community across Nigeria and other African countries through training and media promotion.

The maiden edition of the conference took place in Apapa Iganmu on the 23rd of November, 2019.

The program started 9:00am with registration of the participants from Apapa Iganmu and its environs. After the registration of the participants, it was followed by a training on web design.

Participants where educated on how to create a website with a content management system such as WordPress.

The participants learnt about C.M.S (Content Management System) and the different kinds of C.M.S that can be used to build a website.

After the training session, which lasted for one hour, the host/anchor for the conference, Egbebunmi Olumayowa aka Socio Dee, started the conference with the National Anthem. 

It was followed with a short remark from the Vice Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu L.C.D.A., Hon. Hakeen Akanbi Balogun. The convener of the Conference, Oladimeji Gabriel, was called upon to talk about the purpose of the conference. 

According to him, the conference is geared towards showcasing creatives from the grassroots, especially those who could not afford to promote themselves as a result of lack of funds.

The event continued with the introduction of the first speaker, Hon. Arakunrin Adigun Abdullahi, who happens to be a creative director at Eleven 22 Creative Studio and a public servant.

He spoke on the topic “The Impact of Social Media On Your Craft.” The creative director made the attendees to understand the importance of using social media to grow ones craft. The first speaker offer to give free branding to ten business owners present at the venue. The selected participants who owns a business were contacted.

After the speech from the first speaker, the audience were entertained by BUKKY, a singer.

The second speaker, Why Babz,  spoke on the topic, “Social Media and Reality: The Difference.” The speakers guide the participants on the need to understand why social media is totally different from reality.

The next speaker, Amb. Oghenero Joshua, educate the participants on digital tools for profitability.

There was also a discussion session moderated by Khifayat Olabisi and Oladimeji Gabriel. The session saw two discussants, Dflow Shyne, a singer, and Sodeeq Kayode Yusuf, discussed on the impact of Social Media on their skills and/or business respectively.

The fourth speaker couldn’t make it to the conference as a result of Lagos traffic. Meanwhile, the Fifth speaker, Mr. Olaemma Opara-Signature, took the podium to motivate the team. 

He spoke on the relevance of Social Media in today’s world. And also urged the participants to start a social media campaign to end the Anti Social Media Bill as proposed by one of the Senators in the House of Assembly. The #SayNoToAntiSocialMediaBill was generated and the participants were glad to be part of it by sharing on all social media platforms.

The participants were entertained by Solja and Olek.

Another discussion session was conducted featuring Miss Uche Jombo as the moderator and the following discussants; Salami Kehinde (Akur8 Events & Cakes), Shantai (Singer), Andrew Ekwe (Sharp Photography).

The discussion center on the significance of social media to business. During the discussion there was a disagreement on whether it is okay for small business owner to get loan for their business. 

In response to the question from the moderator, Mr. Andrew Ekwe (Sharp Photography), advised the participants to get loan for their business.

Also, the participants were trained on google digital skills and they got the opportunity to list their business on google business.
